This is the place where you can personalize your profile!
But, how?
By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.
The bottom has widgets you can add!
Some widgets you can only access when you get a premium membership.
Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.

Hi there, you'll probably notice eventually that I fav'ed some of your works, I was browsing through your gallery and liked every single thing you made, I put my favorites from you in my favorites tho, very impressive work you got there, I love the pencil drawings, how do you do that? I mean, whenever I scan a drawing, it does not appear like on my sheet at all. :/
First of all, thanks heaps for your kind words. It really means a lot to me. Especially that I still consider myself as a pretty crappy illustrator with heaps to learn. I'm one of those who's in awe for the art of others, not the one who's awed by others. So thanks again.
As for the scanning, it can be tricky. Each scan has to be individually adjusted while scanning, and then properly tweaked in Photoshop. The more subtle linework and rendering are, the harder is to get it right. Believe me, all my scans of well-rendered drawings look nothing like originals. Just do what you can and then just grit it. Or try to imitate the same style digitally, which is damn hard, but doable. Personally when it comes to precise rendering with nice hatching style, nothing beats ballpoint pen or pencil. I really enjoy organic feel of the process and the result. Of course digitally you can "cheat" and basically digital illustration gives way more possibilities, but still it's not the same.
Dude, you're from Canada, and I've got a soft spot for Canadians! Where are you from exactly? I always wanted to go to Vancouver, and at some point I wanted to migrate there. But the fate dropped my in Sydney, which I can't complain. Though Canada is till on my mind and I'd love to go there one day. I'd love to do a US road trip from the East Coast to the West Coast and then from the West Coast of Canada all the way to the East Coast. I better start saving now, so maybe I can tick it off when I'm 65.
Thanks for the tips, I have no idea how I can adjust my scanner so it looks differently, but I guess I'll figure it out eventually and get a better program than gimp, perhaps Adobe Illustrator, but it's a pain for me to get it work without spending all my money for it ... The feeling of a pencil on a paper is amazing, I'm drawing like that since I'm a very little boy. One of my weaknesses (can we even conugate it?) is that I'm VERY perfectionnist (perhaps I am hypoglicemic, I don't know), hence I keep erasing everything I don't like and do it all over again until I'm very satisfied of it. Then I look at it with disgust the day after ... I sometimes look at my friend drawing (during art classes) and I'm like ''How can he draw that good and barely even use an eraser? That's incredible!'') I cannot do a draft either, it always result of as high quality as the final product, wich I don't like because it wastes my time, especially in art classes, where we have a time limit to finnish our project. Anyway ...
Yes I live in Canada, in Quebec, the only french talking province in Canada, wich I'm kinda proud of! Vancouver seems to be very nice, even tho I never got there. It sounds to be colder than Quebec (most of the population is at the south of Quebec, taking a little portion of the province.)
How old are you now? you don't look older than 35-40 years old on your picture. (I can't tell that much since it's a very little picture, but yeah).
Thanks for the tips, will see what I can do with my scanner settings
As far as I'm concerned, every scanner has its inner and very basic adjustment panel. Either way, having a Adobe Photoshop is crucial. I just can't imagine being an illustrator without it. Some people prefer Painter, others Adobe Illustrator (if you're doing a vector stuff), but I think Photoshop is the most popular and provides very wide spectrum of tools for digital illustration. It ain't cheap, but if you're thinking seriously about this profession, the sooner you start using it, the better. Trust me, I learned my lesson.
As for your affection for erasing, I'd suggest you to treat your drawings as sketches, not final art. Don't try to get everything correct in first go. Instead sketch over it, over and over, until you feel like that's pretty much what you're after. As a result you may end up with very messy sketch, but the more you draw, the better you'll become. Set up a time limit for each drawing. Start from 3-5 minute sketches, very loose and full of expressions. After couple of days/weeks of that practice, you'll notice how much you have improved yourself and probably within 5 minutes you can achieve much more than at the beginning. Then you can extend the time frame up to 10 or 15 minutes. After a while up to 30 minutes, and so on. Draw as much as you can. Draw like crazy. Even draw while sitting on a toilet! I used draw and even play bass in a toilet. Some sketches from my Deviant Art Gallery were conceived there. One more thing, there's nothing wrong with being a perfectionist. I'm one, to some extent. But I know that only extensive practicing is the key to skill improvement and self satisfaction. It's also good to have someone to look up for, someone who in your eyes is better. That gives you a drive and motivation. Plus, I think it's always easier to chase someone, than be chased.
Ohh, forgot something, how do you get the paper folds and those dirty pencil marks? Is it in the rendering, or in the scanner settings? I'd like you to explain some more as I don't understand a thing about informatics, concerning printers and scanners ... Maybe not there tho because we're posting big blocks of text!
